Calls for Submissions

Calls for Submissions

Phase 5 has need for some specific cover art, art and fiction works. Please read the descriptions below and download the linked PDF for more details. For more information on working with Phase 5, please read the PDF found here.

Cover Call - A New World

We are currently seeking concept sketches for the cover for A New World, the introductory book to an epic fantasy series, The Sunwright Chronicles.  The concept for the cover will be a house crest or seal of a silver dragon clutching a staff and sword.  The finished art file should be an .svg or a .psd with the layers and a transparent background, so the art can be modified and incorporated into many covers to come throughout the series.  Call will close when a successful submission is received.  Phase 5 pays 10% royalties on net sales for cover art, and if this art is the focal piece for future covers, the contract will extend to those covers as well. If the seal is only part of future covers, and the selected artist declines to fully create those covers, the artist will receive a smaller royalty on the net sales of those books.  Cover is for paperback, ebook, audio book, and any hardback or special editions produced.  Please email any questions or submit your concept sketch using the form below.  After submission you will receive instructions for sending your sketch, if any (it cannot be attached to the form below).

Call for Submissions - Scapes

We are still accepting submissions of art for an anthology titled ‘Scapes.  It will be a book of art in the science fiction, fantasy, horror genres with the theme of ‘scapes: landscapes, spacescapes, mindscapes, dreamscapes, cityscapes, etc.  The subject should be a scene, not a character nor an object, and the genre (science fiction, fantasy, horror) should be evident.  Abstract pieces are not appropriate for this publication, but stylized pieces may be.

This is not a commission request, we anticipate receiving work you have already completed and for which rights are available, but if you are inspired to create a new work for this anthology, understand we cannot guarantee its acceptance.  We need a few more artists to round out the collection, specifically fantasy and horror scenes.

We will be contracting non-exclusively, and the artists involved will receive a percentage of the net sales of the book (portioned out on a pro-rata basis, meaning your share will be determined by the number of your pieces in the book). Call will close when we have sufficient number of pieces accepted; publication date TBA.

To submit your work for consideration, please complete the form below.  If you wish to submit your works by email, instructions will be displayed upon completion of the form.

Call for Submissions - Character Sets

Phase 5 is currently accepting submissions for a collection (or multiple collections) of characters to be published for use by game masters as NPCs in their table top role-playing games.  The project will include professional quality character art and some basic character information.  All submissions must be the artist's original conception, no commissioned pieces, fan art, or work containing characters owned by another should be submitted.  All genres and styles will be considered.  Characters must be portrayed in clothing (armor counts)  and be tasteful for ages 12+.  A group of characters (such as a merc team, squad, family, etc.) may be submitted for consideration.

Characters may be heroes, villains, nobles, peasants, clergy, bureaucrats, artisans, tradesmen, military, scholars, technologists, mages, craftsmen, royalty, politicians, press, pilots, cowboys, barmaids, or whatever your concept may be in the way of trade; human or not (or partial); and should be submitted with some information about the character's personality, philosophy, goals, disposition, strengths, weaknesses, proclivities, special abilities, secrets, etc., whatever makes that character special.

Payment for this project will be royalty based, with pro rata shares (meaning your percentage is based in part on how many pieces you have included.)  A professional writer will flesh out the character's details and add some gaming information, and fill in any missing information.  Please note in your message whether you would want to work further with the writer about the character's details.  We have only received a few submissions for this project, so the anticipated close for submissions is June 2017, and target publication date TBA (check back for updates).

Call for Submissions - Art and Fiction Anthologies

Phase 5 is always accepting submissions of science fiction, fantasy and horror art for publication in anthologies.  Some anthologies are themed, some are not.  Pieces submitted for inclusion in the anthologies should be original works of yours and otherwise adhere to our Guidelines.

If your piece is accepted for one or more anthologies, you will be notified via the email address you provide via the form below.  We pay royalties based on net sales and collected publications (like the anthologies) distribute the royalty between the artists on a pro rata basis, meaning your share depends upon the number of your pieces included in that anthology.  Specific terms vary from piece to piece and project to project.
Phase 5 Annual Art Review: Imaginations, Volume 2 - Call for submissions for this volume will close August 31, 2017; Target release date is October 2017.  Submissions received after August 31 will be considered for the next volume of Imaginations and for other anthologies.
Phase 5 Annual Review: Short Fictions, Volume 2 - Call for submissions for this volume will close July 31, 2017; Target release date is September 2017.
